How To Make The Atkins Diet Work For You

How To Make The Atkins Diet Work For You

If you are overweight or obese, you have probably heard all the reasons for losing weight. Perhaps the doctor has mentioned that you will feel better and be healthier if you weigh less. He or she has probably told you that it will prevent certain disorders and diseases such as sleep apnea, depression, diabetes and heart disease.

You know that the only way to effectively lose weight is to follow a healthy diet. But that does not mean staying away from most foods, because if you do that, you will not be getting the nutrition your body needs.

You have probably tried many different diets but they just didn't work. However, if you haven't tried the Atkins Diet, you are in for a pleasant surprise. This diet will help you control carbohydrates, and that is what is most responsible for your weight gain.

The Atkins Diet has been around for quite a while. Since Dr. Robert Atkins first introduced it in the 1970s, millions of people in the United States and around the world have followed this diet with great results.

The Basics of the Atkins Diet

The Atkins Diet is a low-carbohydrate, high-protein diet. It discourages the use of foods that are high in carbohydrates such as white rice and bread, and encourages the use of eggs, cheese and meats.

The theory behind the diet is that if you take in too many carbs, you will need too much insulin to digest it all. Over time, this can cause the pancreatic cells that create insulin to become exhausted and lead to diabetes.

Dr. Atkins states that a low-carbohydrate diet will put the body into ketosis, which is when the body digests fats instead of carbohydrates to create energy. By doing this, the body will not need to produce as much insulin, and the deposits of fat in your body will be burned away.

Why the Atkins Diet Works

This diet does not work because you are starving yourself. Rather, there are several good reasons it works:

1. You will lose body weight because you will be burning the fats in your body.

2. You won't be tempted to eat between meals because you won't be hungry.

3. Your blood sugar level will stay steady, so less new fat will be laid down and you will feel better.

4. Burning fat removes toxins in the body, so your health will be better.

How To Follow The Diet

The Atkins Diet is divided into several steps that you will need to follow in order to get the best results. These phases are:

1. Initial Phase.

This is the first 14 days on the diet and you will be consuming less than 20 grams of carbohydrates a day. You will eat only low-carbohydrate vegetables like tomatoes during this time. You probably be able to lose as much as 15 pounds before it is over.

2. Weight Loss Phase.

While you are in this phase, you will be able to increase the number of carbs that you consume by 5 grams per day.

3. Pre-Maintenance Phase.

Once you reach this phase, you will find that you are losing weight at a slower rate. You will be able to try other foods to see how your body reacts to them. If they don't increase your weight, you will be able to add them to your diet.

4. Maintenance Phase.

Once you have reached your goal weight, you will begin the maintenance phase. At this point, you can add more carbs to your diet as long as they don't increase your weight. For example, you might be able to add whole wheat pasta to your allowed foods.

You should talk with your doctor before giving this diet a try, and it is important that you exercise regularly along with your diet. This will make it much easier for you to lose weight. If you have certain conditions such as diabetes, kidney disease or are pregnant you should not use the Atkins Diet.

Overall, the Atkins Diet is a proven solution to the problem of weight loss. If you have tried other diets but have not been successful, why not give it a try? You will be pleased with the results.
